Verve on Stage…
Hi! My name is Kellee Maize. I make music (kelleemaize.com) and founded Nakturnal. I had the pleasure recently to make two visits to one of our favorite new clients, ranked one of the best hair salons in pittsburgh 2011 - Verve Wellness. First things first, lets talk about the hair!
Many people think my hair is naturally blonde…I find it surprising considering how very light it is, and how very dark my eyebrows are but, to set the record straight…my hair is not naturally blonde. In fact, I am not really certain what color it would be now without coloring.
Since I was about 13, my hair has been every color of the rainbow. One day during the summer of my 13th year I dumped an entire bottle of Sun-In and 3 squeezed lemons right on my scalp. It turned a bright orange and has been nearly every shade since from Ronald McDonald red to Jet black. But, by the time I turned 18, I was fairly settled with keeping my hair light. Especially after I dyed it very dark one day during my senior year and nearly every single one of my classmates said, “PLEASE dye it back to blonde, you look scary!”
So, some deep insecurities led to the blonde you see today…lol. But, I actually prefer it at this point and, now, although I do have an itch to go dark and more natural, the processing would require it to be a somewhat final decision. It would ruin my hair to go back to blonde should I decide my classmates were right. Given this is how I have known myself to look for over a decade, I am not quite ready. Not to mention all the pictures and recognition through music are associated with my hair blonde….I am not exactly some A-Lister like Gaga that can get away with a constant change and not confuse my listeners.
Oh, and people ask me on the regular if my hair is real…I suppose because it is so long. So to set another record straight… It is real, and it grows like a weed.
I have had some really great hairdressers in my day and when Nakturnal started working with Verve, I have to admit I was hesitant. But after Lani had such a great experience with Alyssa, I thought, why not give it a try? I was more than pleased. She is young, hip, and VERY talented and as you can see, my hair turned out just great. The products they have are smashing and my hair texture and shine was better than ever!
My first visit to the Verve was in advance of my performance at Bonnaroo, Pride Festival and the Ceremony of Unity, all in one weekend, so I decided to get the works to prepare myself for the crazy journey ahead. I got an AMAZING facial and took home some great Yonka Eye Cream that I heard is perfect for those early morning/late night under eye issues which I was bound to have during the crazy weekend.
Then one of their massage therapists, as well as one of my best friends Roxanne, gave me an incredible massage that helped me let go and relax. She has been working on me for the last two years and I am so excited she is at Verve now. I highly recommend an appointment to experience her healing magic!
I also just had to get a Pedi from Alyssa considering I would have a lot of barefoot performing at Bonnaroo and Pride and my feet were uh, not looking so hot. I have already been jokingly called “too techy” for a hair salon by the Verve owner, as I have my computer on the lap working each time…lots to make happen even when I am getting pampered!

I also invited my girls Asia and Cece since they would be dancing with me at all the events. They had a great experience!
The performances went great, and we felt much more confident with our sexy bare feet!
Even though they got very dusty at Bonnaroo!
Before my performance I set up an altar of intention that the talented Laura Petrilla got a great shot of with my Verve pedicure!
So after these last two visits to Verve, I was very impressed and happy. I decided to work out a deal with Verve who is now officially my Makeup/Hair/Wellness sponsor. So you will be hearing from me a lot regarding all the amazing offerings Verve has including massage, Facials, waxing, yoga, pilates and more. Shout out to Jen and Micah at Verve for working with me to make this all happen!
