New Spring Hair Trend – Totally Hot, or Absolutely Not?

If any of you checked out the various fashion weeks that took place this spring, I’m sure you noticed the new trend that has been gracing all of the runways. This new hair trend is something that I’ve never seen before, and I’m not exactly sure what to make of it yet. The “slicked back” look hit several runways this spring, including Calvin Klein, Victoria Beckham, and Ralph Lauren, just to name a few.

The slicked back style looks exactly how it sounds: water and hair product applied to the hair in order to smooth it back. Models strutted their stuff down the runway with hair that looked like they had just hopped out of the shower and didn’t have time to style it all the way. Most hair was pulled back into a single pony, with wet hair by the scalp and dry hair in the pony. Others sported hair pulled into a half tail, and once again, the hair on the top was wet, but the hair that hung by their shoulders was dry.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I was surprised when I first saw this look hit the catwalk. Something about pairing incredibly gorgeous fashion with hair that looked slightly unkempt didn’t seem normal to me. As I saw it more and more, however, it slightly started to grow on me, especially if it had been done well. The models that had short pixie cuts seemed to pull off the look the best because there was less weight to pull the wet strands down. The models that had their hair pulled into tight ponies also managed the look pretty well, but if the pony was too loose, it ended up looking as though they had just come back from the gym.

Overall, I’m still torn as to whether or not I think this look has the potential to be the next big hit. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it out a few times because it seems so simple and would be a fabulous change from the hours spent straightening and styling! If you’re looking to try it out and want the right product to get the look without looking greasy, stop by one of my favorite downtown Pittsburgh salons, Verve 360. They have a great assortment of products, and they’re always willing to help you find what you need. So go out, be daring, and try this hot new look!
