Stressing Out Your Skin!
The holiday season can be filled with a ton of stress. From trying to get in all that holiday shopping, to trying to fit in all the family activities and holiday parties we take on a lot at this time of year. It can all lead to a ton of stress, which we all know makes us feel different, but did you know all this stress is taking a toll on your skin as well? And I don’t just mean those dark circles under your eyes you’ve been managing to cover up! Stress makes your body release cortisol, a hormone that can lead to heart problems, weight gain, and yes skin problems.
Coritsol does in fact cause you to age more quickly and can add plenty of new wrinkles to your face. The last skin catastrophe caused by stress is dryness, and with the weather getting colder and colder this was already a problem for most!
Now don’t worry there are some things you can do to help your skin out this time of year, even if you can’t eliminate all the stress. (Even though that would be the most optimal solution!) First, try and get some sleep! Put the wrapping paper and cookie dough down! You will find time for it in the morning when you actually have some energy. Giving up the sleep to get things done just makes you sluggish the next day, making tasks take longer than they usually would. Next, try and eat healthier. Eating healthier can be beneficial to your skin as well as your waistline. Cortisol makes blood sugar levels rise, so try and stick to low-sugar foods to help balance it out. Also, step away from the caffeine! It may help get you through the day but in the end it’s adding more sugar, keeping you up, and killing your holiday skin glow.
Lastly, you need to relax! We are not super humans, and believe it or not if not everything is done to perfection or if you politely decline a holiday party invitation it is not the end of the world.
