Sweating with the Yogi’s: Bikram Yoga
Bikram Yoga, also called Hot Yoga, is a 90 minute yoga class consisting of 26 poses in 103 degree heat!
When I heard about Bikram Yoga, I thought “Hey, how hard could this be?”, I was physically fit and used to regular yoga classes. Little did I know that I would soon face one of the hardest classes of my life (it was even harder than chemistry, and that’s saying something). Before beginning the class, the instructor told me that instead of trying to do the entire class (she told me it was perfectly normal to need to sit down) I should make it my goal to stay in the room the entire class.
As the class started I was self conscious of being stripped down to booty shorts and a sports bra (like everyone else in the room), so I kept my shirt on. Within ten minutes I overcame my self consciousness and join the sports bra group as I began to sweat. As the instructor told me, I made it my goal to try to overcome the heat and make it through the class (and I did!).
