Aerial Yoga- I Believe I can Fly!
A whole new world is just 3 inches off the ground! By defying gravity you can get in an extreme yet relaxing workout called aerial yoga. The art of yoga has typically been practiced on the ground, on a mat, but with new advancements and the adding of a soft trapeze you can perfect your yoga moves in the air!
The art of aerial yoga is somewhat new, but with your feet off the ground you can improve your posture and elongate your spine. It is the combination of yoga and the art of aerialists. The workout will strengthen your core while building muscle and increasing flexibility in your shoulders and back. Though it looks daunting when you first see the trapeze hanging from the ceiling this workout is available for beginners, as well as the experienced yogis.
Not only is this workout extremely peaceful, it is a lot of fun too. The trapeze is made from the same material used by aerialists in the circus. The aerialists were always one of my favorite sights to see at the circus, they seemed so elegant and relaxed as they hung from ropes high up in the air. Although you won’t be too high up, this exercise can help you live some of your childhood dreams –like being in the circus. As
you’re building some serious strength you won’t even realize how hard you’re working because of all the fun you’ll be having in the air!
Verve Pilates Pittsburgh offers an hour long aerial yoga class which allows you to attempt deeper stretches and back bends without strain, but still providing a great workout. If aerial yoga isn’t your thing try some of their other great workout classes including, traditional yoga, Pilates, and zumba!
