Listen to Your Heart

Valentines Day, A day to tell that “special someone” just how special they are. Every year, men and women go on a hunt to find that perfect someone to spend that magical day with.  If you find someone, you become overwhelmed with stress and anxiety about where to take the person and what to get them. If you do not find someone, you become sad and depressed about why no one wanted to share Valentines Day with you. If you are feeling the holiday blues, take a break and show some love to someone who will always love you,  yourself. Try using heart rhythm meditation.

Heart rhythm meditation is a type of meditation where you focus on your breathing and your heartbeat. The breathing technique uses your full lung capacity and uses an intervention in the breath which creates rhythmic like breaths.  The heart centered meditation is rich in emotion and will help expand your emotional capacity. It will also help to make you more alert and reinforce your memory.

Heart rhythm meditation is pretty simple. First you must find your heart beat. You can do this by taking a deep breath and holding it in for twenty or thirty seconds. You need to be sure you are feeling your heart beat and not your pulse, so if you feel your pulse, follow the beat to your chest. Next, you need to find a breathing rhythm that has a pause in it.  Take a breath and exhale for three seconds longer than you normally would. Then immediately inhale and hold. This breathing will help bring out your heart beat. As you continue to breathe, your heart beat will come earlier and continue to for every pause. Keep this in mind while you breathe. If you are having trouble finding your heart beat or want to learn more about heart rhythm meditation, visit this website for tips.

If you are having trouble picking up the breathing technique or want to treat yourself even more, try taking a yoga class. This will help you to learn how to control your breathing while focusing your thoughts. To sign up for a class, stop by  the downtown Pittsburgh salon, Verve.
